Dr. Marcia Conston, 6th president of Tidewater Community College since January 2020, has more than 25 years of executive experience in higher education. Her extensive leadership expertise includes the areas of strategic planning, collaborative relationship building, fundraising and workforce development. She has been a recognized innovator and servant leader in a diverse array of academic activities and community partnerships. Marcia chose education as a career because she has always been excited about both learning and sharing knowledge to help others grow. Her administrative positions before coming to TCC included serving as vice president of enrollment and student success services for Central Piedmont Community College and vice president of institutional effectiveness for Benedict College. Her teaching career has included economics to undergraduates and research, analytics and statistics to doctoral-level students.
A native of Mississippi, Marcia earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in higher education administration from The University of Southern Mississippi, her Master of Divinity from Hood
Theological Seminary, and both her Master of Science in economics and Bachelor of Science in]psychology from Jackson State University. Marcia has participated on many regional leadership boards, including with Virginia Beach Vision, Hampton Roads Workforce Council, Go Virginia Region 5, Hampton Roads Chamber and Healthy Suffolk. Her community interests include food security and providing coats for children. She enjoys running and creative writing.
